PROCEDURE SUMMARY

Groups of 10 BALB/c derived female mice weighing 18 ± 2 g are used. Each animal is inoculated with an intravenously administered LD90-100 dose (5.0 x 10⁸ CFU/mouse) of A. baumannii (AR Bank #0282) which is suspended in 0.1 mL PBS. Vehicle and/or test substances are then administered 1 and 13 hours later per the specification of the study design table. Mortality is recorded daily during the following 10 days. Prevention of mortality is recorded in percentage, and the significance is assessed by Fisher's exact test. The mean survival time is compared to the vehicle group with Student's t-test or ANOVA.

CRITERIA FOR SIGNIFICANCE

Mortality data is graphed with the Kaplan Meier Method and Significance is assessed with the Fisher's exact test.
